Philosophy department members Bronwyn Finnigan and Colin Klein helped arrange a pilot workshop on contemplation and Art at the National Gallery of Australia. The workshop, led by Steve Pozel, was called The Art of Deep Looking. It encourages participants to develop more intimate and personal connections to works of art, by bringing greater awareness to what one sees through meditation and mindfulness techniques.

A total of 14 ANU staff, PhD students, and undergraduates from CASS and CAP participated along with a cohort of NGA staff. They also used the experience as an opportunity to reflect, both individually and collectively, on their own experiences with art and the experience of viewing challenging works in a focused, attentive way.
